|Through the years, the Burkholder practice always has been to ease the burdens and concerns
of a family and to fulfill its wishes. As funerals increasingly took place outside the home in facilities
provided by the funeral director, Robert Burkholder bought the comfortable home at the northwest corner of
16th and Hamilton Streets that had been the residence of one of Allentown's prominent families.
While retaining its elegantly simple decor, he converted it into a facility that was easily adaptable for
funerals of almost any size. A display room, where a family may quietly make its own choice of caskets, and
several slumber rooms were added. A spacious parking lot was provided across the street.
